Common reuse challenges

Organizations might believe that building for enterprise reuse will slow them down and not provide tangible value.

Some common objections to building for enterprise reuse include:

  • I need to move fast! It costs more and takes more time to build reusable assets.
  • It is too difficult to manage reusable assets over time across the enterprise.
  • It is challenging for distributed teams to leverage reusable assets.
  • It is too hard to measure the value of enterprise reuse.

Organizations that do not pursue an enterprise reuse strategy are likely to plan to refactor their existing applications to harvest reuse for future applications.

It is possible to refactor your applications after the fact and pull out reusable assets. But you are doubling your effort and postponing the return on investment (ROI) when you go that route. The maxim "go slow to go fast" applies well in this scenario. A little planning and time to build for reuse from the start help your teams to accelerate down the road.

Without a strong enterprise reuse strategy in place, you are likely to get caught in hurdles that limit value and impede how far you can scale your Pega solutions. Inconsistency in designs lead to higher total cost of ownership because of one-off solutions. Reusable assets may not be organized or governed adequately to be leveraged across the enterprise, leading to lost opportunities to realize their value. Applications may become overly complex to maintain which can further impede your ability to make agile enhancements and stay current with the latest Pega Platform version.

With Pega Platform™, building for reuse means identifying your reusable needs up front so you can make them into reusable building blocks from day one. Because Pega Platform is built for enterprise reuse, it is easy to package and begin using those reusable assets out of the gate without impacting your delivery velocity.
