Parts of reuse governance
A successful enterprise reuse program requires a well-defined governance framework to provide the appropriate leadership, support, and coordination across the organization and ensure optimal prioritization, management and measurement of reusable assets.
The diagram below illustrates five important parts of reuse governance:
- COE: A Center of Excellence (COE) establishes the enterprise reuse strategy, and provides leadership, support structures and coordination of assets and teams.
- Reuse in Delivery: The software development lifecycle (SDLC) should incorporate a focus on reuse at each step - in the discovery, preparation, build, and deploy stages.
- Manage Reuse Assets: Reusable assets are more easily managed with well-defined organizational processes and corresponding tools.
- Prioritize Reuse Assets: Focusing on value, demand, and effort will help you prioritize which assets to build.
- Measure Reuse Value: Reusable assets should provide tangible benefits to the organization. Measuring their value is key to a healthy and sustainable program.
